Mitchell S. Hoffman, J.D., Chairman

MSH Professional Head Shot 2016

Mitch’s first exposure to what became his life’s work, computers, was at the early age of 11. This began with programming mainframe time-sharing systems via the early paper-based teletype terminals. He subsequently began his official computer career at the age of 13 by immersing himself in all aspects of the then-burgeoning microcomputer field – including installing, configuring, testing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, programming, selling, and training. His systems specialties have included all Apple, Macintosh, and IBM PC variety hardware and operating systems that have been released since 1977.

Mitch formed his first consulting company at the age of 16 and then spent the next 24 years in the computer field as a value-added service provider to individuals, and later, small and medium sized businesses. Early and continuing projects throughout his career have included installations of accounting systems, CAD drawing systems, database designs, desktop publishing design/layout, and spreadsheet modeling. Throughout the 1980’s, many of these skills were also imparted to his family’s business, where he learned about, and also worked part time as a professional in, their residential and commercial real estate and construction businesses.

While in undergraduate studies at Clark University in Worcester, MA, Mitch was involved with campus-wide support for Clark’s VAX 8500 series machines. Upon graduating, he extended his professional career with IBM, where he gained significant additional experience with IBM’s extensive corporate sales training, and as a Systems Engineer handling networking on IBM’s three platforms at the time – PC’s, 3090 (enterprise) and AS/400 midrange (mini-computer) systems.

In the mid-1990’s, Mitch returned to the Boston area for graduate school to study law. He then worked in the Tax Services Division of the former Arthur Andersen LLP, where he was almost immediately invited to join Andersen’s national Research & Development Tax Credit Studies Team. This role allowed him to be instrumental in managing several ongoing documentation and procedural Studies for large manufacturing companies across the U.S.

In 1995, Mitch, with his then wife, founded and built Pookinstown USA, Inc., as a premium provider of childcare services located in her native town of Newton, MA. In 1996, Mitch moved on to found Hoffman Associates, Inc. (HAI), but continued to sit on the board of  Pookinstown, which most recently had produced revenues in excess of 200% of original plan.

In 1996, Mitch returned to his computer career, promoting Hoffman Associates as a total outsourced IT solution for growing companies.  He founded and built the consultancy based on products from Microsoft and Apple used in the small business LAN/WAN environment. Within 2 years, Mitch had built HAI to a 300% sales growth rate with over 30 clients in the Greater Boston area. The firm’s reputation evolved as a premium provider holding substantial engagements with several high-profile clients.  Read More

In 2006, Mitch sold the majority of his interest in Hoffman Associates. As a result of careful systematization since HAI’s inception, a 2 year transition period to the new owners was completed with 100% account retention as well as significant new account growth. During this time Mitch also founded Hoffman Advisors as a general business advisory for small and medium sized startup and growth companies.  To launch Hoffman Advisors, he has also partnered with several veterans of the corporate finance and capital markets industries to assist his clients with their business plan and capital raising efforts. As a result, Mitch has sat on the boards of several growing companies in the industries of consumer products, software, and destination Internet web sites.

Mitch has been an adjunct professor at Newbury College, covering curriculum including IT/MIS Sciences and various software applications. He has served as a volunteer to the Directors of the Executive Board of the Leonard P. Zakim Fund, the man after whom Boston’s landmark suspension bridge is named. He has also served on the Executive Board of the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Jewish Committee. Mitch renewed his former involvement in The Boy Scouts as an avid participant with his son’s local Pack.

Mitch received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Management, including a concentration in Administration, Economics and Finance, from Clark University in Worcester, MA. He received his Juris Doctorate degree from Suffolk University Law School in Boston. He has been admitted to the Bars of Massachusetts and Florida as a licensed attorney, and has been licensed as a Broker and Realtor member of the Greater Boston Real Estate Board and the Massachusetts MLS. Mitch has been a member of the American, Florida, and Massachusetts Bar Associations, and the Beta Gamma Sigma National Honor Society for Management.

Mitch is an avid swimmer, weightlifter, and automobile enthusiast and collector. Mitch, 56 has a 22 year old son who graduated from Belmont University, and is now continuing his career in the Entertainment Management field in Nashville, and 20 year old daughter who is pursuing her Bachelor degree at the Isenberg School of Business at UMass Amherst.  Mitch lives in Stoughton, Massachusetts.
